Natural Homemade Bug Spray That Works!

It’s that time of year again, BBQs, fires, and front porch beers.  Unless you live in Antarctica or Iceland, you’ll be battling mosquitoes. This natural homemade bug spray will help keep mosquitoes at bay so you can enjoy your time outside!

Store bought bug sprays are okay, but the overly pungent chemical smell is not.  As soon as you get inside, you feel obligated to shower, especially if it’s right before bed.  This led me to researching a natural homemade bug spray, one that doesn’t smell like chemicals and one that doesn’t make me feel grossed out when I put it on.

Double points for a natural homemade bug spray that allows me to hop right into bed at night without showering, because sometimes, quite frankly…I’m just too lazy.

Now, to be fair, if you plan on strolling through the Louisiana bayou in August, you should probably consider something with a little more power in the formula, probably something from Bass Pro or Cabela’s.

However, if the goal is to have a pleasant evening with family, friends, and music in the backyard without mosquitoes, this natural homemade bug spray recipe will do the trick.

Natural Homemade Bug Spray That Works!

Supplies

• 4 ounce spray bottle
• Distilled water-this can be found at any grocery store
• Witch Hazel-generally found in the pharmacy section at grocery stores
• Lavender essential oil
• Citronella essential oil
• Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil
• Peppermint essential oil

Recipe

• 2 ounces distilled water
• 2 ounces witch hazel
• 12 drops lavender essential oil
• 12 drops citronella essential oil
• 12 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
• 12 drops peppermint oil

Directions

1. Apply everything above into the 4 ounce bottle
2. Shake well before applying
3. Re-apply every couple hours or as needed

Tip:

For kids between 3 and 10, cut the essential oil drops in half, so 6 drops for each instead of 12.
